Grindle
A Georgia woman vaca- tioning in Navarre Beach was killed and Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office investigators say they have their primary suspect behind bars. William Hugh Grindle, Jr., 43, of Newnan, Ga., was arrested and charged with an open count of murder in relation to the death of Deborah L. Cameron, 45.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 2, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to an emergency 911 call at a beach rental home on the 7300 block of Grand Navarre Boulevard. The home was rented for Labor Day weekend by a large group of family members and co-workers from the Atlanta, Ga. area, police said. Upon arrival, deputies found Cameron deceased on the bedroom floor. A later autopsy report stated the deceased suffered trauma to the face and head and had several broken ribs.

"The cause of death is still pending further investigation by the Medical Examiner's Office," said Sgt. Scott Haines with the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses at the scene said they found Cameron after investigating the cause of a dog barking from inside her room. Police reports said witnesses broke down the door and found the deceased lying on the floor. According to sheriff's office reports, witnesses also said Grindle, who lived with Cameron in Georgia, fled the scene in a green sport utility vehicle with Georgia tags half an hour before deputies arrived. Sheriff's office reports also said Grindle had a long-term boyfriend/girlfriend relationship with Cameron.

Deputies caught up with Grindle around 4:54 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 87 and Highway 90 in Milton after vehicle and suspect descriptions were broadcast to law enforcement throughout the area. Grindle was taken into custody and is being held in Santa Rosa County Jail without bond.
