Fundraising scam hits Gulf Breeze

Sacred Heart Health System is warning area residents of a possible fundraising scam by persons going door-to-door soliciting book purchases that supposedly benefit children with cancer at the hospital.

"The sales representative told me that for only $75, a child suffering from cancer would receive one book every month for one year," said a Gulf Breeze woman who was a victim of the solicitation efforts.

"No book campaign is currently being conducted by Sacred Heart Foundation and we have not authorized any door to door book sales to benefit Sacred Heart Children's Hospital or our Cancer Center," said Mary Beth Thompson, director of the Sacred Heart Foundation that raises funds for the Sacred Heart Hospitals in Pensacola and Destin
