Why did GBPD win? It was recently reported in the local newspapers that Gulf Breeze Police Department was awarded the best of the best in the state of Florida for traffic safety. If that is true, I'd hate to drive in the worst traffic safety city in Florida. I only drive a few miles each day on highway 98 that runs through the city of Gulf Breeze, and I feel that I am driving at my own risk. Most drivers are violating the traffic laws and I find it extremely difficult to stay out of their way. I can drive for weeks without observing law enforcement officers. At noon yesterday (Aug. 23) I was driving on highway 98 heading west on my way to a dental appointment in Pensacola. I was driving my normal speed in the right lane at 45 MPH. A vehicle approached me from the rear like a bat out of hell and passed me on the right (dirt/grass) side since the left lane was bumper to bumper with vehicle who also were passing me while traveling in excess of the posted speed law. In other words, I was sandwiched in between the fast lane of traffic on my left side and the crazy person who was passing me on my right side. This happened very fast and the driver was driving too fast for me or my wife, who was a passenger in my car, to get the license number. I could not tell if it was a male or female driver. How did GBPD get the traffic safety award? Perhaps no other city applied for it. Noah H. Belew Gulf Breeze |
