The Jared Sparks Historical Society of PJC The Jared Sparks Historical Society of Pensacola Junior College (PJC) announced the walking tour schedule for 2007- 2008. The excursions are conducted by Professor Randall Broxton, historian and sponsor, and are attended by students as well as many members of the Gulf Breeze and the Pensacola Historical Societies. All tours are free and are scheduled on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.. You don't have to register, just show up. The ages of people who usually attend varies from 18 to 75. Last year at least 100 attended each tour. Professor Broxton uses a microphone so all can hear. Tours are cancelled when there is rain. Broxton said, Please wear comfortable shoes and watch your step as we are not responsible for injuries." The walking tour's tentative schedule dates, places and suggestions for parking are: Sept. 8, - Seville Square area and Fleming Fountain; parking available near Government and Alcaniz streets. Oct. 20 - St Michael's Cemetery Garden tour; parking is available behind the cemetery. Nov. 10 - Downtown Pensacola tour; park near Palafox and Wright streets. March 22, 2008 - North Hill azalea tour; parking at Alabama Square, or Desoto and Reus streets. April 26, 2008 - Lower North Hill tour; parking available at Palafox and Jackson streets. May 10, 2008 - East Hill tour; parking available at Gadsden and 20th streets. The Jared Sparks Historical Society of Pensacola Junior College is named in honor of the work of Jared Sparks who was history professor and later President of Harvard University.
