SoundWave Band returns to the 70s
BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News jason@gulfbreezenews.com

For the third time in four years, halftimes during Dolphin football games will be filled with the sounds of the 1970s.

The SoundWave band, which performed songs from the 70s R&B group Earth, Wind and Fire in 2005 and the jazz group The Manhatten Transfer in 2004, will perform three songs from Chicago this season. The set list includes Free, Saturday in the Park and 25 or 6 to 4.

The band, led by instructor Neal McLeod, played a show last year called Volcanus, which included pieces by Robert W. Smith (The Inferno), Frank Tichelli (Vesuvius) and Igor Stravinsky (Firebird).

The 120-member band will be led by drum majors Adam Ferrara and Michael Roane. The section leaders include: Alicia Jeffrey (flutes), Patrick Cooke (clarinets), Colleen Delaney (saxophones), Jessi Bryant (melophones), Jesse Lee (baritones), Phil Lee (tuba), Britney Toner (trombones), Zach Rogers (drumline), Whitney Harris (pit), Samantha Sheppard (base), Jack Holway (tenor) and Alex Simon (cymbals).

Four members of the 2006 SoundWave Band can be seen performing on Saturdays this season. Clarinet players Keely McKissack and Mary Deaver are freshmen members of the Fightin' Gator Marching Band at the defending national football (and basketball) champion University of Florida, trombone player David Sever is a freshman with The Marching Chiefs at Florida State and freshman baritone player Brad Shows will be performing with the Auburn University Marching Band.
