Things that tick me off

I get ticked off about twice a day! I usually laugh it off, but there are a few things about my beloved Pensacola Beach, right here in the heart of the Redneck Riviera, that just tick me off.

Why did we name one block of Via de Luna, from the toll booth to the stop light at Ft. Pickens Road, Pensacola Beach Blvd.? Did we just have to confuse people more? Wasn't Avenue of the Moon in Spanish good enough? Why? It's STUPID!

I hope when it comes to naming the avenidas again that we get a little more creative than Avenida 11, 12, and 13. Let's get rid of that stupid number game. I think my house would look very cool on Bechtol Boulevard, not Avenida 13. Let's see if we can do that, and not tick me off!

Why is the toll bridge pass the same cost if you get it on Dec. 1 as it is for an entire 12 months? How unfair is that? People should have to pay for what they use only, especially since the government broke their word and began the toll after we had paid for the bridge TWICE! I'm still ticked off that I have to pay to get in my home every day. What kind of tax is that, Mr. Jones?

Why don't we go to a city county government? Do we have to live the rest of our lives with the county dumping things like ECAT on the city without them even knowing it? How stupid is that? Why do we need two police departments, two elected boards of commissioners, a real leader in the mayor's office that has to serve in a "weak mayor" position? Why do we need two of everything and then the two can't get along and it costs us money we don't have. But then, we deserve the kind of government we elect.

It ticks me off that I have to walk or ride my bike several miles because when I want to attend an island event, there is no place to park. I don't mind it and I need to ride it more, but not in 108 degree hell-hot weather. How long does it take us to wake up and build some parking? I think a 10-story parking lot in the parking lot at Casino Beach would be great during the season, and in the off season the islanders would make good use of it. We could have events in it, like garage sales and cookie bakes, and when Mardi Gras comes and it rains, we'll have the world's tallest Mardi Gras parade. Can't you see it now: we could sell booths all along the side and the parade goes from the top of the parking lot to the street and back. How cool would that be? When it rains, who cares? It ticks me off every time I see someone who came here to spend their money, getting towed because there is no place to park.

People that cross breed dogs and try to sell the mutts tick me off. Who wants a snoodle, or a pickawah or a labradoodle? It's a mutt, a cur, a mistake. Just take it home and love it. Some of the greatest dogs I have ever seen were mutts, but don't try to pass them off as anything special. IT'S A MUTT, LADY!

Killing Canadian geese without a hunting license ticks me off. Why, I know six Bubbas that would have paid many thousands of dollars to hunt geese here.
