BY FRANKLIN HAYES Gulf Breeze News franklin@gulfbreezenews.com

A young man riding a bicycle was killed alongside Highway 98 early Sunday morning. At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 19 Navarre resident Gerran Clayton Copeland, 17, was hit from behind by a van traveling the same direction. A police report stated Copeland was thrown from the bicycle, landed in a nearby ditch and was pronounced dead at the scene. The report said Anthony Rogelio Griego, 21, of Texas was driving the van and did not stop immediately after the accident. Griego was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter.
