Local civic clubs install new officers
Hoe 'n Hum Garden Club
The Hoe 'n Hum Garden Club officers, Ellen Webb, President; Karilyn Butler, Vice President; Sue Huff, Secretary; and Judy Barousse, Treasurer are ready for a new year. The club is busy making plans for the year. President Ellen Webb says, "The club will begin its new year on Sept. 27 and we will complete our plans then."
Gulf Breeze Historical Society
Here is a reminder of the Gulf Breeze Historical Society's programs planned for the 2007- 2008. The programs are: Mr. Duncan relating the "Duncan family memories" in September; George and Tim Hoffman "Back to 1932" on Tuesday Oct. 16; a field trip to Arcadia Mill with Dr. Fryan Rucker on Saturday Oct. 27; Earl Hutto Congress and the The Benson legacy to Gulf Breeze in November; and a holiday social in December.
The society also hopes to have Betty Vickers speak about Women of the Arts, Lyn Zeitel on how to publish your memoirs, a Santa Rosa Historical Museum trip with Nathan Woolsey and Vernon Compton speak on The Nature Conservancy. New officers will be installed in May. Ideas for future programs include: Doug Hightower presenting the legacy of Mae Hightower Gilmore and Millard Gilmore, Gary MacMullen on the other Bruce: Wallace Bruce's Son; and a tour of Gordon Sprague's museum. The Historical Society has no limit to ideas for covering the history of this community. The Historical Society meets at the Gulf Breeze Library, located at 1060 Shoreline Drive, on the third Tuesday of each month and the public is encouraged to attend.

Santa Rosa Shores Women's Club
The Santa Rosa Shores Women's Club meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the evening at a member's home. The meeting consists of a business agenda, program , usually a speaker, and of course food is involved. They are announcing the big community picnic on Sat. Aug. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. It's an old fashioned picnic for the community to come together and meet one another and have a good time. It will be held at Swenson Park. Sponsors for this event are the Santa Rosa Shores Homeowners Association, Santa Rosa Shores Women's Club and Coast Community Church. The Driftwood Garden Club
The officers for the 2007-08 year are: President, Millie Dehn; Vice- President, Kathy Cannon; Recording Secretary, Betty Allen; Corresponding Secretary; Sara Whitesell; and Treasurer, Emogene Presley. The incoming President, Millie Dehn, spoke to the group and made many Committee assignments for next year. The Club members were impressed with Millie's command of the New Year's responsibilities. They are busy planning for the New Year. The first meeting will be September 27.

Emerald Coast Women's Club
Emerald Coast Women's Club (ECWC) is planning a Sept. 6 meeting for the beginning luncheon and meeting for the Emerald Coast Women's Club. The monthly meetings are regularly the first Thursday of the month at 11 am at Soundside Officer's Club at Hurlburt Field.
Janis Fort, President, says: "This year the focus will be somewhat different. We're going to sponsor more scholarships."

Gulf Coast Friends
Gulf Coast Friends (GCF) has new officers who have spent their summer planning for the new year. The executive board of GCF for the 2007-2008 year includes: President, Jane Arnot; First Vice-President, Helene Star; Second Vice-President, Bev Shepard; Secretary, Jeanne Robertson; and Treasurer, Sue Elder. Gulf Coast Friends meetings are held at New World Landing on the second Thursday of each month. Doors open at 11 a.m. Lunch starts at noon. Reservations are required for the meeting. For details call Barbara Briggs, GCF Publicity Chairperson, at 850-932-3399. Briggs says: "We are looking forward to another exciting year for GCF in 2007-08."

Hacienda Girls Ranch
Hacienda Girls Ranch was started by the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs (FFWC) almost 40 years ago to provide a warm, safe and stable home for girls throughout Florida who were abused, abandoned or neglected. It is a continuing project of FFWC. Santa Rosa Women's Club (SWRC) members are asked to bring school supplies for these girls to the fall board meeting Sept. 13-16. Please bring your donations to the September 4 SRWC meeting. Following is a list of their needs:
Back packs, notebook paper (wide and college rule), spiral notebooks (wide rule and college rule), 1-3-5 subject composition books, memo pads, sticky note pads, colored 3x5 cards, binders (1.5" - 2.5"), dividers, 3- prong pocket folders, page protectors, blue and black ink pens, highliters, colored pencils, colored markers, erasers (large and pencil top), lead pencils and refills (.07mm), pencil pouches, pencil sharpeners, calculators, dictionaries, drawing pads, construction paper, and scissors.
