State council sponsors needs survey
FROM STAFF REPORTS Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

The Florida Statewide Advocacy Council (FSAC) is conducting a survey to determine the number of vulnerable Floridians who are in need of a guardian. The FSAC Adult Special Committee, Chaired by Dr. Bruce Nager, developed the survey in response to statewide concerns for those who, after reaching the age of 18, are not able to make decisions regarding the services they need.

Working with the Department of Children and Families and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, the survey will be distributed electronically to parents, foster parents, children and adults receiving services, group home owners, support coordinators and other providers of services for the developmentally disabled. It will also be distributed to mental health providers, and legal professionals. The data collected will be used to determine the number of vulnerable citizens who may be in need of guardianship, develop a process to obtain guardianship, and formulate a method of waiving the court filing and other fees for those applying to be a guardian in certain circumstances.

The Florida Statewide Advocacy Council is part of Florida State Government and housed within the Executive Office of the Governor. The mission of the organization is to protect and advocate for a better quality of life for Floridians with unique needs.
