LOCAL TV LISTINGS FOR YOUR HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER

Thursday

7 p.m. on ABC

Ugly Betty: The old "rent a sweetie so the parents don't know I'm gay" story line has been done, but if any show can make it fresh, it's this one. Betty (America Ferrera) is drafted into pretending to be Marc's (Michael Urie) girl when his mom (guest star Patti LuPone) visits ... and the whole Suarez clan has to play along. Speaking of moms, Claire (Judith Light) makes a decision about the magazine's leadership in "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Friday

9 p.m. on NBC

Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Oh, Mike. After that politician-punching episode a few years ago, Logan (Chris Noth) should be keeping his nose not just clean but hospital sterile. Instead, he risks conflict-of-interest charges by immersing himself in solving the murder of a woman he dated recently. There is another case to be dealt with, and it's double trouble: the murder of a police recruit and the disappearance of his girlfriend. Kathryn Erbe guest stars.

Saturday

9 p.m. on MAX

Pan's Labyrinth: A winner of several technical Oscars, director Guillermo Del Toro's fantasy missed out on the award for best foreign language film - to the surprise of many. It stars Ivana Baquero a youngster who tries to escape the dangers posed by an increasingly unhinged military captain (Sergi Lopez) following the Spanish Civil War. She finds possible refuge by tackling several scary challenges in a place populated by unusual creatures.

Sunday

8 p.m. on CBS

Cold Case: Every episode of this show is emotional, but "Forever Blue" packs an extra punch. Lilly (Kathryn Morris) and the team reopen the case of a police officer's murder in 1968. At first glance, it looks as if he might have been on the take, but the investigation reveals a bigger secret - and some disturbing truths about the cop culture in 1968. Shane Johnson and Brian Hallisay guest star.

Monday

8 p.m. on CBS

Two and a Half Men: Here comes the bride ... and the groom's sister with the bride's exbrother in-law. Charlie (Charlie Sheen) continues his relationship with Myra (Judy Greer), the sister of Judith's (Marin Hinkle) intended, Herb (Ryan Stiles), in this new episode. As Herb and Judith's wedding day approaches, Alan (Jon Cryer) tries to get Jake (Angus T. Jones) ready for the big event in "Aunt Myra Doesn't Pee a Lot."

Tuesday

8 p.m. on HBO

As You Like It: Shakespeare with sumo and samurai? Hey, why not? The Bard's tales are timeless stories that can be told in any setting. This new production directed by Kenneth Branagh transplants his comic story of love and political rivalry to a Western trading enclave in 19th-century Japan. Brian Blessed plays the dual roles of Duke Frederick and Duke Senior, with Bryce Dallas Howard and David Oyelowo as lovers Rosalind and Orlando. Alfred Molina also stars.
