Claney Outzen is Allen's 'Kid of the Week'

Outzen
Claney Outzen, the kid of the Week, is the daughter of Rick and Cathy Outzen. She just completed the eighth grade at Gulf Breeze Middle School where she was secretary/ treasurer of her class. She will be a freshman at Gulf Breeze High School. Outzen's freshman class will be the first class that has to select a "major" and she has chosen musical theater. Her goals at the present time are to be accepted to a prestigious musical conservatory, perhaps Cincinnati Conservatory of Music or Boston Conservatory and then go on to a career in musical theater. Claney sings in the choir at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Pensacola every Sunday. She is a featured soloist and is also a solo cantor; singing all the music for an entire service alone. She has won numerous county-wide speech contests and is a great student.

Claney Outzen was one of the two Gulf Breeze winners of Women In The Arts Awards held in June at Milton. Claney recently competed in the Florida State Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition for Voice in the Intermediate Level for age 13-15 and was the winner in this division for the entire state of Florida. Claney has been a voice student of Deborah Ross in Pensacola for four years.

Claney was chosen from the Pensacola Children's Chorus to perform in the Pensacola Opera's production of "La Boheme" last year and has been chosen again to be in next season's production of "The Magic Flute." She has performed in Pensacola Little Theatre's production of "The Women" and "Bye Bye Birdie." Susan Pote, Director of the Pensacola Children's Chorus, said: "I believe the nominee is one of the most amazing talents to go through our program. She has been in our program for six years and definitely has a future in the arts! She is also an outstanding student and leader. She is this year's recipient of the Ashley Brown Alumni Scholarship. She is extremely talented and is fully connected to striving for excellence at whatever she undertakes."

Kid of the Week is a feature of the Gulf Breeze News Talk of the Town column.
