Free online tutoring available seven days a week
Students 4th grade through 12th grade and college introduction level can connect to a live tutor from a Santa Rosa County Library or their home PC (with a library card), everyday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. for free one-on-one homework help via the Internet. Live Homework Help, an online tutoring service from Tutor.com, connects students to expert tutors in math, science, social studies and English. Spanish-speaking tutors are available in math and science. Real Results for Students From January to May 2007, Santa Rosa County students completed 785 Live Homework Help sessions. In post-session surveys, students reported the following: 95% are glad the public library offers this service 94% would recommend the service to their friends Over 90% feel the program is helping them build confidence in their school work, complete homework assignments and improve their grades Free Help in Core Subjects Live Homework Help is easy to use. Children and teens simply go to the library's Web site at www.santarosa.fl.gov/libraries, click on the Live Homework Help link and then enter their grade level and the subject they need help in. In just a few minutes, students are connected to a tutor in an Online Classroom for help in math (elementary, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus), science (elementary, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics), social studies (American History, World History, Political Science and more), and English (spelling, grammar, essay writing, book reports). "One of our primary goals is to provide support to learning programs in the county," stated Linda Hendrix, Director of the Santa Rosa County Library System. "With increased importance being placed on student and schoolwide performance on the FCAT, we're proud to offer a service that supports learning in the content areas." Learn from Expert Tutors in an Online Classroom Students and tutors can review specific homework questions, as well as subject-specific concepts using features such as controlled chat, an interactive white board and shared Web browsing in the Online Classroom. Tutors can type math equations using a special math tool, share educational Web sites and much more for a rewarding learning experience. All tutors are certified teachers, college professors, professional tutors or graduate school students from across the country. Every tutor has completed a third party background check and a comprehensive training program. |
