Obtain freedom from smoking

Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola will offer its "Freedom From Smoking" program starting Aug. 14 and Aug. 15 to help with the physical, psychological, and habitual components of nicotine addiction.

Participants can choose to attend the seven-week course at sessions in the afternoon or evening. The classes will be held Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. starting Aug. 14, and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting Aug. 15. All classes will be held at Sacred Heart Hospital and will cost $75 per person.

However, the orientation class is free and a limited number of scholarships also are available for the entire program.

Gulf Breeze Hospital recognizes anniversaries

Gulf Breeze Hospital employees were recently recognized at a celebration for years of service. Administrator Bob Harriman and Associate Administrator/Director of Nursing Patsy Myers presented awards to employees reaching milestone anniversaries in April, May and June 2007. Leaders and staff from Gulf Breeze Hospital, the Ciano Cancer Center and the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine turned out to applaud their team members in the spotlight. Those recognized for five years of service included: Lakista Brownlee, Michelle Covell, Jerriann Dean, Maryan Huson, Linda Rongstad, and Gil Valencia.

Those recognized for 10 years included Alicia Andrews, Lisa Grissom, Amelia "MiMi" Gulley, and Jeffrey Sherman

Those regocnized for 20 years of service included Emily Altazan and Karin Bowyer

Those recognized for 25 years of service included Deb Karstens, Suzie Mehaffey and Julie Johnson.

Dorothy Keyser was recognized for 30 years of service.

Learn the nuances of grantwriting

Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola will host a grantsmanship training Program Aug. 27-31 for nonprofit and government grantseekers to learn proven grant-writing techniques. The hands-on workshop will take participants step by step through all stages of planning programs,researching funding sources and writing proposals.
