Rogers will not seek re-election Santa Rosa County School Superintendent John Rogers says he loves his job, and claims Monday really is his favorite day of the week. But he also says 33 years is enough to dedicate to full time service to education, and believes it is time to retire and enjoy his grandchildren. "I will fill out my present term, which ends in November 2008, but then I will retire and let someone else take the helm," he said. Since he is not running for re-election, his position will be on the ballot next year. Rogers has been the county school district's superintendent for nine years. He came to the job from his position as Gulf Breeze Middle School principal. And before that, he had served as coach and teacher for eight years, followed by 16 years working in administration before taking the nine year job as superintendent. "As long as my plans coincide with the Lord's plans, then I will be retiring and spending more time with my four grandkids next year. I would also like to have a small garden and spend a little more time at the golf course. It's just time," he said. Pre-qualifying for the election of the superintendent's job will be next July, with the Primary election next September. |
