Resource officers cut
BY PAM BRANNON Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

Rogers
Don't look for any uniforms from the sheriff department walking the halls of Santa Rosa County elementary schools this Fall. You won't find any.

School Supt. John Rogers told the school board there just isn't money to fund school resource officers for the lower grades this year. "We do need to keep our D . A . R . E . drug prevention program going in the elementary schools. But our recommendation, with budget cuts we have to make, is to have resource officers only assigned on a regular basis to the high schools and middle schools."

The board agreed.

Rogers reported that with six sheriff deputy resource officers at the high schools, and six for the middle schools, and then by using two police officers from Gulf Breeze Police Dept. for Gulf Breeze High and Middle, it would cut the costs of the school resource officers program in half from last year's costs.
