Landfair completes cross country trip

Woodrow "Pack" Landfair is giving away his motorcycle. He says, "Come and take it. This is your chance to own a piece of history; or at the very least a great conversation piece; or just a working motorcycle." He will give it away in Maine at the end of his twelve month 23,000 mile expedition. He says the bike runs well but has the wears, dents and bruises of the long journey. He wants nothing in return except to make the recipient happy. If someone wants to do something for him he'd like a good Maine dinner and a Greyhound ticket to the US city of his choice. Stanley Wood Landfair AKA Woodrow Landfair nicknamed "Pack" has a story to tell.

Pack is the son of Stanley Landfair of San Francisco and Sheri Landfair in Springfield, Virginia. He is also the grandson of Bob and Pat Landfair of Gulf Breeze and the nephew of Jim and Barbara Landfair of Navarre. Pack is 24-years-old and spent most of his childhood jetting across the country to Dad's home in San Francisco during the summer and back. He always preferred a window seat, but he yearned for road travel.

Landfair
Landfair completed the University of Texas with a Bachelor's Degree in creative writing. While at UT he walked on as a catcher for the Baseball team. He didn't play a single inning at Texas but served as the bullpen catcher, earning the Teammate of the Year award in the years 2004 and 2005. He earned this not only because he was the bullpen catcher but also because he tutored the players on the team to help them improve their academic standing.

Landfair completed a 48- state trek by motorcycle in July 2007. After a spinal injury he decided to take this trip as not only as a fulfillment on a list of goals he wrote as a youngster but also as a vehicle to launch a writing career. He financed this trip by selling all his possessions, including his 2005 national championship ring, his 1998 Ford Explorer for $3,000 and selling T-shirts that chronicled his trip on this web site for $20 each,

He bought a used Suzuki Intruder 800 for $2,800. He had never ridden a motorcycle so he took a three-day, $90 class in Hutto, Texas and rode the Intruder there for the final class after selling the SUV. He left Austin on July 1, 2006, and headed east with a 70-pound backpack that contains a sleeping bag, a laptop computer, a digital camera, cell phone, an I Pod with 2,000 songs, writing material and books.

Zeigler
Landfair has already gained thousands of followers by documenting his journey in photographs, in fiction, and chronicling his experiences on Woodrowland- fair.com, an online road journal that he plans to turn into a novel. At each stop, he told stories of his travels at roadside bars and cafes and answered questions from the audience. Pack said he was not doing this for fame, but that he sees himself as a traveling story teller.

To pay-forward his good fortune in life Pack is giving away a lump sum check for $3,000. The deadline to apply for this was July 31, 2007. The winner will be announced and the check will be mailed on September 30th 2007. Pack says, "This isn't a tax write-off nor a donation, a scholarship or a grant. This is a personal check taken from 100% of the proceeds from my T-shirt sales. If the T-shirt sales don't generate $3,000 I will work to earn the remaining prize money." So Stanley Wood Landfair AKA Woodrow "Pack" Landfair is not only giving away his motorcycle but $3,000 as well. Watch out for this young man we'll be hearing much more about him in the future as a writer of his adventurous life. His final appearance of the tour will be on September 23, 2007 at Wolf Trap in Washington D.C.

Gulf Breeze resident becomes sommelier

Chad Zeigler of Gulf Breeze just passed the Court of Masters Sommeliers test to become a certified Sommelier. He is only 22, and one of the youngest Sommelier's in the World. A sommelier (pronounced suhmal' yAy), is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional, usually working in fine restaurants. The role is more informed than that of a wine waiter. Their principal work is in the area of wine procurement, storage, and wine cellar rotation. They are also responsible for the development of wine lists and for the delivery of wine service and training of their restaurant staff. They pair and suggest wines that will best complement each particular food menu item.

Ziegler is the son of Kim Ziegler of Gulf Breeze and Steven Ziegler of Miami. Kim is a homemaker and Steven is a pilot with Federal Express. Chad has two sisters: Erin, his twin, who is studying to become a psychiatrist and Ashley who also works for FedEx. He has lived most of his life on Pensacola Beach and currently resides in Gulf Breeze. He works at Bonefish Grill and Aloha Liquors but his future holds a place in the restaurant business. Chad says, "I have two goals: One is to bring a fresh energy of modesty to the wine industry and eliminate pretentiousness and the second is to show people that quality wine can be had at affordable prices if you look in the right places."

Chad is aspiring to become a Master Sommelier which is very difficult to achieve. There are only 126 masters in the world. He is scheduled to serve an apprenticeship at French Laundry in Napa Valley and hopes to return to France in the future for a more in-depth study of the wines in that country.
