Rachel Harvey is Kid of the week

Harvey
Rachel Harvey, the kid of the week, is the daughter of Jim and Roberta Harvey. Jim and Roberta are both biologists. Rachel is quite an accomplished young lady. She's skipped the eleventh grade and will be a senior student at Gulf Breeze High School this year. She has played the piano since she was 7 years-old.

She currently plays the cymbals in the drum line in the High School band. She attends a program for High School students at Duke University each summer and takes an intensive academic curriculum. This year she is studying Human Intelligence. Before taking off to Duke she had just returned from a three -week seven-country tour as a People to People Student Ambassador.

She spent 2006 Christmas in Antarctica with the People to People program.

Rachel was selected to receive the 2007 scholarship to the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. The seminar was held from May 31 - June 3 in Tallahassee, Fla. The seminar provides leadership skills to sophomore students across the country. Rachel received this award on the merits of an essay based on leadership. Santa Rosa Woman's Club sponsored Rachel and the award was presented by Shari Fulford, chairman of the HOBY committee. Rachel hopes to enter Duke University in the fall of 2008 and with her achievements she should be able to reach that goal.
