TP 8 year olds off to strong start at state

The Tiger Point 8-year-old All Star team got off to a strong start at the Dizzy Dean State Tournament this past weekend in Seminole, winning all four of its pool play games.

Tiger Point won their sixteam pool and received a first round bye in the single elimination portion of the tournament, which began Monday. A recap from that half of the tournament will be in the July 26 issue of the Gulf Breeze News.

Tiger Point 18, Crestview 10

The Tigers rallied from an 8- 1 deficit, scoring five in the fourth and seven in the fifth to beat Crestview Saturday.

Stephen Huggins and Nicholas Myers both had four hits and scored three times, while Jack Martin had four hits and scored twice.

Nico Ynostrosa and James Parsons both had three hits, while Bryan Richards, Trevor Robinson, Konner Flynn and Hayden Essary all had two hits.

Ynostrosa, Flynn and Richards all scored twice in the win.

Tiger Point 19, Brent 17

Parsons' three-run homer keyed a seven-run fourth inning as Tiger Point edged Brent Saturday.

Parsons went 4-for-4 with two doubles and scored three times, while Martin went 4-for-4 and scored four times and Richards 4-for-4 and scored twice.

Huggins and R.J. Philips both went 3-for-4, while Flynn, Myers, Dustin Rogers and Andrew Dorsey all had two hits.

Huggins, Flynn and Myers all scored twice in the win.

Tiger Point 13, Seminole 3

Myers hit a three-run homer, going 3-for-3 and scoring three times, as Tiger Point won its opener Sunday against the host team.

Ynostrosa and Richards both went 3-for-3 and scored twice, while Parsons, Flynn and Essary all had two hits. Parsons, Richards and Flynn all scored twice for Tiger Point.

Tiger Point 19, Burg 0

Tiger Point scored seven in the first and fourth innings to blank Burg Sunday and finish pool play unbeaten.

Myers hit another three-run homer, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and scoring three times. Richards went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Rogers went 3-for-3 and scored once.

Parsons, Martin and Philips had two hits, including a double, and scored twice.

Dorsey and Huggins both had two hits for Tiger Point, who faced Wildwood Monday night in the first round of the single elimination tournament. The top three teams in the 12-team tournament get an invitation to the Dizzy Dean World Series next weekend in Southaven, Miss.
