Letters to the Editor
Thanks for bringing school problems to light

Kudos to Pam Brannon for publishing the school board meetings about the problem in our schools with the expulsion / prescription pill epidemic we are having with our children. Thank you. I plan to attend an upcoming school board meeting to once again discuss my daughters expulsion ( I am the mother of the article written June 7th "Zero tolerance at Santa Rosa Schools") and to offer a plan of action to help raise awareness to this situation and offer the school board and the students other alternatives other then that of the Learning Academy. I would like to some how get all the parents of students who would like to promote an alternative to expulsion together to develop a criteria and implement a Student Against Prescription Pills and Peer Pressure program (S.A.P.P). My daughter and I have a good head start on this but it would be helpful to get community and parental backing. We need to get to the core of this situation which is our children and teach them. I really feel it is lack of education that is at this point allowing this epidemic to continue and grow at such a rate it is almost imposable to keep up with. Let's start the new year with a new approach. Learning Academy does not have to be the only option for our children. These are OUR CHILDREN if we don't stand up for them who will? Please contact me at [850-565-4533] for any ideas as to how to get people together on this issue.

CItizens concerned about RV park

Do you know that the City Council is considering a Trailer/RV Site in Shoreline park for the benefit of transients who may visit Gulf Breeze briefly?

Council members stated they have discussed approximately fifteen ideas or ways to generate monies with the RV park being one of them. They said they fear the loss of revenue from statemandated reduction in property assessments. Without any hard numbers, the Council is playing "Chicken Little," claiming that the sky is falling in Gulf Breeze.

How many mature trees will the Council bulldoze for the benefit of people who do not live in Gulf Breeze? How will the Council explain streets, parking pads, sewer and water connections, electricity and security as "public park and recreational" use only?

An unofficial source provided information regarding the possibility of developing an RV Park to citizens whose homes will be affected directly by this plan. The City Council may have observed the letter of the Sunshine Law, but city officials dodged around the spirit of a law which says citizens are entitled to know the "What" and "Why" of public policy before any further consideration of any plan which directly affects it's citizens.

The Mayor, City Council and City Manager need to come out in the open. Changing Shoreline Park into a Cash Cow for the benefit of transient visitors is wrong.

This issue affects every citizen of Gulf Breeze. Talk to your city officials and express your position.

Cut soccer players denied coverage

I am very disappointed that your newspaper would print such an article and on the front page. If the GBHS Principal and the Santa Rosa County Superintendent decided that Rob Simon was not the right man for the job then I would expect your paper to support their decision and rally behind the newly appointed GBHS soccer coach. Why would you chose to give these "protesting, concerned" parents this much attention?

Your paper chose not to cover the news when three '07 seniors were cut from the GBHS soccer team by these two coaches? Their parents protested and were concerned also and wanted newspaper coverage, but were denied. What was the point of the GB News fueling this drama? The way I see it . . . what goes around comes around.

Goombay Festival organizers say thanks for support

I would like to personally thank you for your generous contributions to the 2007 Pensacola Goombay Festival. Without the support of our media partners, we would not have enjoyed such a successful first event.

We look forward to working with you again in 2008 and beyond.

Thumbs down to Tiger Point

Let's see...goose poop on the golf course (a natural fertilizer) verses herbicides, pesticides and fertilizer run off...I think I'll take the goose poop...thumbs down on the Tiger Point Golf Course for teaching children that polluting the environment and destroying wildlife is okay!
