Commissioner Broxson to host family reunion

Commissioner John Broxson and other Broxson family members are seeking descendants of local pioneering families to attend a family reunion scheduled for Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., at the East Milton Recreational Facility, located at 8604 Bobby Brown Road, near the intersection of Hwy. 90 and Hwy. 87 S in East Milton.

Live entertainment and funfilled family activities such as softball games are planned. Those who attend are asked to bring lawn chairs, beverages, and a pot-luck dish. Families are also encouraged to bring old family photos and mementos to display.

Some families for which attendees are sought include but are not limited to: Jernigan, Wells, Tolbert, Berrian, Lowery, Harvell, Golden, Grimes, Anderson, Nelson, and Williams.

According to Broxson, "A famous poet once said "Home is a place where when you go there they have to take you in". The Broxson and Extended Families Reunion is our place to come home and greet old acquaintances and get to know the new ones. I look forward to seeing you there July 28 this year."

County plans terrorism drill

Santa Rosa County Emergency Management Division, along with several local agencies, is participating in a terrorism scenario at 8 a.m. on July 27 at Taminco, Inc. The exercise is part of the ongoing effort to involve local response agencies in regular exercises throughout the year to increase the overall capability to respond to different types of disasters in Santa Rosa County.

The drill at Taminco, Inc. located at 4575 Highway 90 in Pace, will simulate a terrorism attack. The Santa Rosa County Sheriffs Office, Taminco, Inc., Air Products, Santa Rosa County Emergency Management, local fire departments, and Rural Metro will participate.

Citizens who reside or work near Taminco, Inc. should not be alarmed by the presence of emergency personnel participating in the event. A Joint Information Center for the media will be set up on site, near the front gate. EHS class of 1968 plans 40th reunion

Learn to read

Learn to Read of Northwest Florida is holding a two-day tutoring workshop on July 21 and 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Town and Country Plaza Building to train volunteers to help other adults learn to read and write. Please call 850-432- 4347 for registration information. Space is limited.
