ISLANDER OF THE WEEK: Kelly Robertson
By Tona DeMers

Robertson
Name: Kelly Robertson

How long have you been involved on the island? Actually, not that long.

What do you do? Since being replaced on the SRIA board, I've returned to my favorite hobbies: golf, woodworking and mosaic tile art. I retired from a career in applied geophysics in 2001.

What's your favorite hangout? Cabo's and Bands on the Beach.

Pet Peeve? "CAP" removers, politicians that ignore their constituency, anyone that thinks they have a monopoly on good ideas or creative solutions, and people whose only attempt at listening is the breath they take between speeches.

Which organizations are you involved with? First and foremost, the Perdido Key Association. PKA has a membership of nearly 1000 households on Perdido Key; interests include honest growth management on Perdido Key, and the implementation of the Perdido Key Neighborhood Plan.

Do you have a goal for the island? For Santa Rosa Island? Specifically, no. I think the residents and commercial interests could use some real, honest growth management policy... a policy that works for the benefit of both groups, and emphasizes maintaining the "neighborhood" that has become Pensacola Beach. The "visionaries" that laid out the blueprint for Pensacola Beach did an excellent job, mixing commercial and residential areas with parks and set-aside (nodevelopment) areas. I also think "Vision 2010 and Beyond" provides a great framework for the future development of the beach.

Do you have a family? My wife, Pam (who many of you have had the pleasure of meeting); a son, Jay, a 2000 graduate of Georgia Tech and Atlanta resident; and, a cat, Raven (who probably thinks she should have been listed first).
