Your vote is important for tax reform
The Florida Legislature has enacted rather extensive property tax reform. Your County Commission will adhere to these restrictions in spending and I will keep you informed as to the positive and negative impacts of this legislation. It is important to note that in the state of Florida, with one (1) being the highest per capita tax rate, Santa Rosa County ranks low at number 50 out of the 67 Florida counties. On January 29, 2008, citizens will have the opportunity to vote on a constitutional amendment relating to property tax reform. I encourage you to study this issue very carefully to determine the impact it will have on you personally and on the ability of your county and city to meet basic public needs. Your vote is important! Garbage Collection Franchises The county commission has agreed to consider granting one or more garbage collection franchises in the unincorporated areas lying south of Yellow River in South Santa Rosa County. The transition to franchises could take place in three years in compliance with Florida Statutes. Ambulance Service Lifeguard Ambulance of Florida, LLC, has received final approval for commencement of service effective August 1. Lifeguard will bring their home office to Santa Rosa County with a minimum of 40 employees. A Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (COPCN) is effective the same date. Inmate Work Squads The commission entered into an agreement with the Florida Department of Corrections for three inmate work squads. These squads will work with the Public Works Department on road and drainage maintenance. District 5 Recreation Master Plan Santa Rosa County has entered into a contract with PBS & J to provide a recreation master plan for the unincorporated areas in District 5. You are urged to participate in this citizen inspired effort to help envision for the future a viable recreation plan for our area. Public notice will be given of a public meeting to be conducted in the near future. Your input is encouraged and needed. Hurricane Season Be sure to get your copy of the Santa Rosa County Commission booklet outlining steps to be taken in the event of a Hurricane. Contact numbers and evacuation instructions have been updated. www.santarosa. fl.gov/emergency/index. html Call 850-983-5360 for information. Derelict Vessel Removed The stranded boat on Sunset Lane in Santa Rosa Shores will be moved in the next few days. The storm surge from Hurricane Ivan had stranded this boat in 2004. Abatement Process of Unsafe Buildings Continues It has been a lengthy process but we are nearing the end to bring Santa Rosa County out of the devastation we experienced in 2004 and 2005. |
