Pelicans host GB Chamber members

The Pensacola Pelican's hosted the Gulf Breeze Chamber Business After Hours at their Training Academy located at 4920 N. Davis Pkwy., Pensacola. The event was well attended. Talmadge Nunnari, General Manager of the Pelicans played host to this prestigious group. This is Nunnari's first full season as General Manager of the Pelicans; yet he has been with them for almost 5 seasons. He is a Pensacola native with baseball in his blood. From Jacksonville University where he was an All- American to Major League baseball with the Montreal Expos, Nunnari's life has been baseball. When he is not playing, managing, or coaching, Nunnari enjoys competing in 15K runs, triathlons, and marathons. Nunnari and his Staff were positioned all around the academy to serve up some traditional "take me out to the baseball park fare!"

Gulf Breeze Optimists present 'Windows and Watercolors'

The Gulf Breeze Optimist club sponsored the Windows and Watercolors on June 29 from 6 -9 pm at Maria's Stained Glass Studio, 2705 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Gulf Breeze. Wood Working by Ralph Gaither, The event included a wine and cheese reception and Optimists and friends turned out to enjoy the art, the fellowship and to listen to the band featuring Jeff Lanza, Corey Headrick and Ryan Henderson.

Maria's Stained Glass Studio is located in the Panhandle Place office complex. The owner, stained glass artist, Lorene Lanza restores stained glass and designs new creations. Currently Lanza is restoring ceiling light globes for McGuire's Irish Pub as well as windows for an old home in Alabama. Lanza explained how these restorations are made complete with shapes and matching colors. Lanza, Optimist Club member, hosted a Gallery Night last November to showcase local artists. Her support and encouragement of established and budding artists contributes much to the cultural life of the community.

National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association luncheon was held July 10 at noon at the Bayview Senior Center. The program was Scams on Seniors presented by Vann Milheim a financial planner. Many federal employees, former, retired or active, and their spouses and guests attended.

Pensacola Woman's Club

Pensacola Woman's Club revealed their happenings in June. On June 14, the club provided a picnic lunch for the Habitat for Humanity workers at two houses in the Brownsville area. The workers were part of a group of missionaries who came from Missouri to build houses for Habitat, the youngest of whom was fourteen. Lunch was colas, ham and cheese and turkey breast sandwiches, chips and snack cakes. On June 26, monthly bridge was held at the clubhouse at 1020 E. Gregory Street from 10 am to 2 pm. Attendees played cards and/or favorite table games. The participants brought cards, tiles, game pieces, boards, chips, etc. Tables were furnished for four to six players. Admission and lunch $7.00 per person. You may join them for lunch each month even if you don't play and there are door prizes! Call 850-944-5169 for information.

Fun Fest 2007

There was fun for the whole family on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 at Navarre Beach. Arts and crafts, food, children's area was available both days. Bingo was held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Main Tent. The Corporate Challenge team fun games were held Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Moms' Beach. Saturday evening national recording artists The Georgia Satellites, and fireworks were featured. Artist, Judy Schillingburg's Fun Fest posters were for sale at the Chamber office. The Greater Navarre Beach Arts Association is sponsoring The "Paint Santa Rosa County" 2007 Contest, on Navarre Beach, October 13 and 14. The contest is open to all artists living in Santa Rosa County and the competition includes the mediums: watercolors, acrylic paints, oil paints, pastels, colored pencils, and mixed media (flat surface).

There are four categories and the artist may enter one or all groupings. The categories are: The Beach scene which takes in Gulf Islands National Seashore and the 12 mile coastal region of Navarre; the River or Nature scene that includes the Blackwater River area, Blackwater Heritage Trail and rural scene; the Downtown scene featuring Navarre, Milton, Bagdad, Jay, any town scene with buildings; and Animal scene that can involve Gulf Breeze Zoo, animals in zoo, or related/nature & animal scene found in Santa Rosa County.

Entries will be due on October 9 and must be delivered to the GNBAA Art Shack on Hwy 87 between 3 pm to 7 pm. Each entry may not be larger than 24" x 36" and smaller than 8" x 10". Each entry will cost $10.00 and requires the attached form on the back of the entry. Framing of entries is not mandatory but is encouraged.

All entries will be displayed at the Greater Navarre Beach Fall Festival of the Arts, on Navarre Beach, October 13 and 14. The prizes, First, Second, Honorable Mention and "Best of Show" will be awarded in each category. Winning art will be displayed in the new Navarre TDC Building gallery following the Arts Festival.
