One expelled from GB Middle

One Gulf Breeze student was listed in the most recent expulsions and alternative placements by the Santa Rosa County School Board Thursday, June 28. A Gulf Breeze Middle School student was sent to the Learning Academy in Milton, the county's alternative education center for expelled students. The violation: continued misconduct.

Five other students from the north end of the county school district were also sent to the Learning Academy, including: a Central High School (Milton) student for possession of marijuana; a Milton High School student for possession of weapons, including a knife and a billy club (or the student can take the GED); and three Avalon Middle School students - all for planning and then a substance reported to be cocaine being planted on another student. The three Avalon students were also offered the option of attending the Girls Learning Academy in Pace, instead of the Milton school.

The Learning Academy will be less crowded at the beginning of the school year, since School District Supt. John Rogers reported that onethird of students who had been attending the Academy at the end of the 2006-07 school year would be sent back to their home schools beginning the next school year in August.

Many of those were early termination of their expulsions, sending them back to their home school earlier than expected for good behavior and passing academic standards.
