Gulf Breeze golfers shining in summertime
Hicks, Dorsey, Ryals, Jordan all winners in June

Sarah Hicks won her second tournament in as many weekends Sunday, winning the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour's Tiger Point Junior Classic.

The GBHS freshman to be shot an opening round 89 Saturday and lowered that total by eight shots Sunday for a twoday total of 170. Hicks birdied the 325- yard par four first hole Saturday before recording three birdies on Sunday - the 334-yard, par 4 sixth, the 454-yard, par 5 eighth and the 124-yard, par 3 10th.

Morgan Dzwonkowski, another Gulf Breeze resident, finished tied for 14th in the male 16-18 year old division, shooting an 83 Saturday and a 78 Sunday for a 161 total.

Dzwonkowski birdied the 165-yard par 3 second hole Sunday, as well as the eighth hole.

Grant McCormick was 16th with a two-day total of 168. McCormick didn't birdie a hole Saturday, but did record an eagle 3 on the 543-yard par 5 16th hole.

He added a birdie on the 412-yard par 4 15th hole Sunday.

Hicks, who has placed in the top 3 in each of her last five SJGT events, also won the Pensacola City Championship on June 10, shooting a 79. The win earned her an exemption to a future America Junior Golf Association tournament.

GBHS senior to be Kristen Dorsey took 26th out of 55 players at last weekend's Florida Women's State Golf Association's Junior Girls' Championship in Winter Garden.

Dorsey shot an 81 Saturday, but birdied two of her first four holes on Sunday to finish day two with a 77.

Dorsey took fifth place in a SJGT event June 15 at the Greystone Junior Classic in Dickson, Tenn. Dorsey shot a 76 and a 77 on the 6,000-yard course.

Three days prior to that, Dorsey won an Optimist Regional Qualifier in Courtland, Ala. She shot the final nine holes of the tournament at a 2-under 34 to finish with a 148 total (73-75). She won the tournament by nine shots.

Dorsey shot a 1-over 37 over the final nine holes, finishing with an 80 at an AJGA qualifier in Humble, Texas on Jun3.

She qualified for the Fidelity Investments Junior Classic, also in Humble, two days later. She finished the three-day tournament at 233, shooting her best round last (75).

Dorsey finished 11th in the 24-player field.

Ashleigh Ryals, a sophomore to be at GBHS, won the 20th Annual Rocky Bayou CC Junior Golf Classic in Niceville June 14-15. She won by six shots, shooting a 78 and an 80 for a 158 total.

Ryals finished third in the recent Panhandle Junior Golf Association Tournament at A.C. Read June 17. She shot an 86 and an 87 for a 173 total.

T.J. Jordan, a GBHS senior to be, won the boys' 16-18 year old division with a 167, shooting an 83 and an 84.

Zach Willers and Andrew Antonetti were second and third, respectively with scores of 173 and 203.
