Breezeway Cafe
Much more than a hospital cafeteria
BY LISA NEWELL Gulf Breeze News lisa@gulfbreezenews.com

Chef Josh Moultrie prepares a varied menu each day, including Mexican fare, seafood, pizza, catfish and more.
Tortilla soup and black bean and corn salsa encrusted chicken breasts called Pollo Mi Casa are but two of the gourmet food items on the menu at a hidden restaurant in Gulf Breeze.

At this restaurant, the menu changes daily, prepared by a Cordon Bleu-trained chef and offering nutritional analysis right on the menu. Another day features several varieties of pizza. Other menu items include Cod Veracruz, Golden Fried catfish and Meatloaf.

The fresh salad bar selection ranges from Cobb and Southwest to Asian to shrimp and beyond.

And most entrees cost less than $3.25, with optional side dishes starting at 89 cents.

This restaurant is not deliberately hidden, but it isn't where you might expect ... it is in the main building at Gulf Breeze Hospital, just as it was 22 years ago when the hospital opened.

However, the Breezeway Café is much more than a typical hospital cafeteria. The atmosphere is welcoming, and food is appetizingly displayed. Salads are very generous and topped with your choice of bleu cheese, almonds, raisins, tomatoes, and other salad fare, or you can order a menu salad, and there are at least seven varieties.

Tortilla Soup, Pollo Mi Casa, Mexican Rice, Broccoli and a corn muffin were the chef's selection one day at the Breezeway Cafe.
Burgers and onion rings keep warm in their own heated shelf, for diners on the go. Or you can elect to dine on china plates laden with fresh vegetables, breads, meats and starches, that you select from at least two varieties daily.

Vegetarian fare is also available at the Breezeway Café, and if you are on a special diet, the nutritional guide is conveniently displayed at the buffet line.

The Breezeway Café offers breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekdays and lunch and dinner seven days a week. Dessert is available and included chocolate layer cake on the day we dined. It was scrumptious!

The casual atmosphere accommodates groups and offers catering on a limited basis.

Bring cash, credit or debit cards to dine at the Breezeway Café. Checks are not accepted.

BELOW: Fresh salads, made to order, are available daily.
The Breezeway Café is open for breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m., for lunch from 11:15 to 1:30 and for dinner from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Weekend times vary slightly.

For more information, call the Breezeway Café at 934-2084.
If you are in a hurry, you can "grab and go" with some of the prepared items.
