Woman's Club presents awards
Two Gulf Breeze teens honored

When the GFWC Milton Woman's Club, Inc. presented the 1st Annual Women In The Arts Awards on Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m. at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium two of the winners were from Gulf Breeze. They were Kate Turner and Claney Outzen. Turner won for Drama and Outzen won for Voice both in the 12-18 years of age group. Claney Outzen was unable to attend to receive her award. But it is obvious from these two young ladies resume that they truly talented.

Turner is an upcoming senior at Gulf Breeze High School. Kate has GPA of 3.96 at Gulf Breeze High School. She is a member of the National Honors Society. She was recently elected President of Gulf Breeze High School's International Thespian Society (ITS).

Her most recent accomplishments include playing Millie in the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Saenger Theatre. She not only played the lead, but was involved in the choreography, set building and dance instruction for others in the play. She was cast as a specialty dancer in PJC's Singing in the Rain. Other roles include Jen in John and Jen, Jackie in Runaways, Peggy in Godspell, Rapunzell in Into the Woods, and Madame Dilly in On the Town.

Turner has been successfully involved in district and state thespian high school competitions since her enrollment in GBHS. Her most recent achievements include Superiors at the district level for a performance of Godspell for which she was also a choreographer, Superiors and Critic's Choice for the category of large group musical, and Superiors in Solo Musical. At the State level, the nominee won Superiors in both large group and solo musicals.

Outzen is the other winner of Women In The Arts Awards held in June at Milton. Claney just completed her eighth grade year at Gulf Breeze Middle School where she was Secretary- Treasurer of her class. She will be a freshman at Gulf Breeze High School in the fall. Outzen's freshman class will be the first class that has to select a "Major" and she has chosen Musical Theater. Her goals at the present time are to be accepted to a prestigious musical conservatory, perhaps Cincinnati Conservatory of Music or Boston Conservatory and then go on to a career in musical theater.

Outzen recently competed in the Florida State Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition for Voice in the Intermediate Level for age 13- 15 and was the winner in this division for the entire state of Florida.

Outzen was chosen from the Pensacola Children's Chorus to perform in the Pensacola Opera's production of La Boheme last year and has been chosen again to be in next season's production of The Magic Flute. She has performed in Pensacola Little Theatre's production of The Women and is currently in rehearsals for their production of Bye Bye Birdie.

Pensacola Symphony Orchestra (PSO)

The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra recently announced the Board of Directors and officers for 2007/08.

Eight new directors serving a three-year term are Ava Abney, Vice President, Organizational Excellence for Baptist Health Care; Thomas Armstrong, former Optical Engineer and Financial Analyst; Rodger "RP" Doyle, Director of Fund Development for Northwest Florida Blood Center; Martha Ann Hunter, a long-time civic leader; Tad Ihns, President of Avalex Technologies Corporation; Anne Patterson, Assistant State Attorney; Douglas Rehm, Sr. Vice President of Regions Bank; and Milton Usry, Professor Emeritus of Accounting. Returning board members are John Cavanaugh, Mike Hill, Angela Jones, Patricia Langhorne, Ann Litvak, James Potter, John Shaffer, Susan Stumpf, Robert Turner, Roger Webb and Timothy Wright. Retiring directors are R.K. Hunter, Gary Huston and Carol Tanksley.

The 23-member Pensacola Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors is comprised of prominent business and community volunteers. The Board is responsible for PSO governance, upholding its mission, and supporting and promoting the many programs of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra.

Officers for the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra's 2007/08 season are Tom Bailey, President; Bill Dollarhide, Vice President; Margaret Couch, Secretary; and Rick Harper, Treasurer.
