Little guys stand tall with district titles
GBSA U6s, U7s to represent District 1 at state tournament at Shoreline Park July 6

Two dozen local fathers got a nice Father's Day present as the GBSA U6 and U7 All Star teams won the Dizzy Dean District 1 Tournament Sunday at Shoreline Park.

The U6 team beat Perdido 17-2 in the final, while the U7s beat Bill Bond 10-2.

The U8, U9 and U10 All Star divisions concluded either Wednesday or Thursday. Read more about them in next week's issue of the Gulf Breeze News.

U7s

Gulf Breeze 10, Bill Bond 1: Deems Edlund hit a three-run homer as part of a 2-for-3 effort as Gulf Breeze beat Bill Bond in pool play Saturday.

Gavin Mayes, Jake Hering and Josh Hoffman all went 3- for-3 in the win, with two of Hering's three hits being doubles. Daniel Green went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Jesse Grant and Matthew Hawkins both had two hits, while Hawkins drove in three. Conner Thompson, Grant and Edlund all scored twice in the win, while Mayes, Hering and Hoffman all scored once.

Gulf Breeze 13, Navarre 5: Green, Edlund, Hering and Hoffman all had three hits as Gulf Breeze won its second pool play game Saturday.

Thompson, Grant, Hawkins and Nick McCain all had two hits. Hawkins hit a double and drove in two runs, while Hering doubled, tripled, scored twice and drove in two runs. Hoffman had two RBIs and scored twice.

Green scored twice, while Thompson scored once and drove in two. Grant and Edlund both had an RBI.

Gulf Breeze 10, Bill Bond 2: Hawkins went 3-for-3 with two doubles, while Thomas Goodroe hit a two-run single in a four run fifth to clinch the championship.

Grant doubled twice and scored once, while Hering doubled twice and scored once. Mayes had two hits and scored twice, as did Thompson.

U6s

Gulf Breeze 20, Tiger Point 6: Chance Napier went 4-for-4 and scored four times, while Joseph McPhetridge went 3- for-4 and scored three times to lead Gulf Breeze to a win over Tiger Point.

Jake Weldon, Tyler Dittmer and Carter Sheppard all had three hits and scored twice, while Spencer Wirth, Steele Chambers and Jonathon Ueberschaer had two hits and scored twice.

Cayson McCurdy had two hits in the win, while Owen Johnson had two hits and scored twice for Tiger Point.

Braden Massey and Dalton Renfroe had two hits and scored once in the loss, while Tekaah Roby and Emmanuel Ayala had two hits each.

Gulf Breeze 16, Perdido 4: Napier and Dittmer both had three hits and scored three times to lead Gulf Breeze to a win over Perdido.

Wirth, Weldon and Sheppard all had three hits and scored twice, while Chambers had three hits and one run scored.

Ueberschaer had two hits in the win.

Gulf Breeze 17, Perdido 2: GBSA scored the maximum (seven runs) in the second inning as they pulled away from Perdido in the championship Sunday.

Weldon and Napier, who had four and three hits, respectively, doubled and scored in the first inning. Napier added a two-run triple in GBSA's seven-run second inning. McPhetridge, who had four hits and scored twice, added an RBI double in that inning.

McCurdy, who had two hits and scored twice, doubled to drive in a run in the third inning.

Chambers, who also had two hits and scored twice, doubled and scored in the fourth inning. Ueberschaer, who also had two hits and scored twice, doubled and scored in the fifth inning. Weldon and Wirth, who had three hits and scored once, both doubled and scored to end the game on the mercy rule.

Dittmer had three hits, while Sheppard had two hits and scored once.

Both GBSA teams will represent District 1 in the state tournament, which starts July 6 at Shoreline Park.
