JAMES "GIBBY" NAYLOR FAIL
rest of you, break not a flower,
nor inscribe a stone, nor when
I am gone speak in a Sunday
voice but be the usual selves
that I have known. Weep if
you must, parting is hell, but
life goes on so sing as well."
James "Gibby" Naylor Fail passed away on June 4th, 2007 while vacationing in St. Lucia with his wife Barbara. He had a generous nature, a loving spirit and a childlike joy in his heart. The world has lost one of its kindest souls with his passing. Gibby lived the past 20 years in Pensacola Beach. He was active in the local beach community, and had numerous friends there as well as around the world. He never met a stranger. Owner of Fish Pie Records, he supported the local music and art scene and played a mean blues harp. He was a member of the Church of the Good Guys, the Glass Eye Poets Society, and the Surfer Memorial Board; and won the coveted Beach Bum of the Year Award in 2003. He was a unique individual who lived his life on his own terms. A man of faith, he hit his knees every day on the beach to talk to God. He lived his beliefs, generous to a fault, always helping anyone who needed him. He will be greatly missed by everyone who ever met him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Emily Stone Fail; his aunt, Anne Stone McComas; his uncle, Naylor Stone; and his grandparents, Joe Manasco Fail & Rosalie Freeman Fail and William Naylor Stone & Eliza Winn Stone. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fail; his father, James Manasco Fail; his sisters, Kathryn Luttrull and Marcia Boykin; his aunt, Margaret "Peggy" Stone Cole; uncles Alton and Charles Fail; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and a multitude of friends who loved him madly. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 23, at the Pensacola Beach Community Church at 11 a.m. Family and friends are invited to share their memories at the service. Following the service, there will be a life celebration at the Dock on Casino Beach. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to his favorite charity, the Pensacola Beach Elementary School. "Life is too short for drama
and petty things. So kiss slowly,
laugh insanely, love truly
and forgive quickly."
"It's a pirate's life for me…"
