Look Out!!!
Tragedy was averted after an accident that caused one vehicle to overturn on Shoreline Drive. On June 13, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Joe Sabat was driving his truck west in the 800 block of Shoreline Drive, when Pamela Sue Cahela, the driver of a Cadillac going east, drifted entirely into his lane. According to a police report, Cahela said she was distracted when her daughter handed her a piece of paper. Sabat, who was driving a full-size Ford truck, was forced to move into the oncoming lane of traffic to avoid a head on collision. The passenger side of Sabat's truck collided with the right front of Cahela's Cadillac, causing Sabat to overturn. Cahela said that by the time she looked up, it was too late to avoid the collision. There were three passengers in each vehicle. Cahela was charged with careless driving and failure to use the designated lane. The accident inflicted approximately $5,000 in damage to the Cadillac and an estimated $15,000 in damage to the truck. Traffic was halted momentarily while the wreckage was cleared. There were no injuries reported at the scene.
