'Surf's Up' is good clean fun
BY PAM BRANNON Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

I've been to a LOT of movies in my day, and more animated features than I had ever thought I would ever see since my grandson was born in 1999. But this weekend we went to an opening of one that I would have to say is absolutely entertaining for both kids and adults -- of any age.

Surf's Up is an animated feature about some pretty contemporary penguins (at times you almost forget they are penguins.) And there were times at the Breeze 8 Cinema in Gulf Breeze that we heard laughter filling the theatre -- from adults and kids all at the same time. In other words, the humor was not aimed at 'just kids', and at the same time they were not inuendo jokes that might go over kids' heads -- or might cause questions that adults don't want to answer.

I have been so some kid movies lately that have made me cringe a little from the adult inuendo, which I know is supposedly to make it 'easier' for adults to 'enjoy' an animated feature.

The characters in this particular movie are smart, cute, and believable, with a scenario that could really happen in the real world. I never once looked at my watch to see if it was almost over, which I often do at these 'kind of movies'. There were moms AND dads in the movie with kids, and whole families were watching and laughing together.

I was not looking forward particularly to going to see Surf's UP. But I left thinking "we ought to buy that". It is a movie I could easily see again -- and again. It will make you laugh, and sympathize, and not a single cringe element in it!

Good family entertainment!
