Two GBSA teams win at Summer Classic

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Tourney champs - again The GBSA 9U All Stars, known as the Wave, won their division at the GBHS Summer Classic Sunday. The GBSA U14 and U9 All Star teams were winners Sunday in the GBHS Summer Classic, held at Shoreline Park.

The U14 squad, behind a one-hit, 13 strikeout performance from Justin Ratte, defeated Gospel Projects 4-1 in the championship game, while the U9 Wave, behind three RBIs from Adam Colston, defeated Bill Bond 9-2 in their title game.

U14s

GBSA 4, Gospel Projects 1: Gulf Breeze scored two in the second and one more in the third and fourth innings to win Sunday.

Michael Mann, who went 2- for-3, hit an RBI double in the third that missed being a two-run homer by a couple of feet. Trevor Challenor went 2-for-2 and scored once, while Taylor Webb scored two of the four runs.

GBSA17, GBSA 13s 0: Ratte went 3-for-3 and scored three times, while Trip Rowe had three hits and scored twice to lead the U14s to a win over the U13s Saturday.

Jack Sargent and Mann had two hits and scored twice, while Chance Winn tripled and scored twice. Jase Brown and Brandon Sorenson also scored twice.

GBSA 16, Navarre 1: Mann went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and scored three times, while Rowe and Sargent had three hits and two runs scored in an easy win over Navarre.

Challenor and Brown both had two hits and two runs scored, while Sorenson had two hits and scored once. Colin Cahill singled and scored once in the win.

GBSA 5, Perdido 5: Sargent, Challenor and Mann all had two hits and a run scored in a timedetermined tie with Perdido.

Ratte had two hits, while Bryce Wein scored once.

U9s

GBSA 9, Bill Bond 2: Gulf Breeze rallied from a 2-0 first inning with six in the bottom of the first in their title game Sunday.

Jace Amberson and Zane Gill had an RBI and both scored twice, while Julian Gordon had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Sam Joyce, Colston, Bradley Proctor and Wade Niles all scored once.

GBSA 9, Bill Bond 4: Joyce and Colston both scored twice as the Wave finished pool play unbeaten with a win over Bill Bond Saturday.

Gordon had a hit and a run scored, while Amberson, Gill and Niles all had an RBI and a run scored.

GBSA 26, Tiger Point 1: Gill had three hits, two runs scored and five RBIs to lead Gulf Breeze to an easy win over Tiger Point.

Joyce, Corey Nolan and Blake Fournie all scored four times, while Matthew deMahy and Gordon both scored three times. Niles and Colston both scored twice, while Brian Stapleton scored the lone Tiger Point run.

GBSA 9, Navarre 7: Niles' two-run double in the sixth inning put the Wave ahead to stay against Navarre.

Gill and Niles both had two hits and two RBIs, while Nick Liebig added a two-run single. Proctor scored three times, while Amberson scored twice.
