HEALTH BRIEFS A person's greatest chance of survival during a medical emergency greatly increases not when a professional rescuer arrives, but through life-sustaining CPR performed by the average person who is already on the scene. At least one person in every household, office or school should be trained and certified in CPR. One might think, "With my hectic schedule, how can I find the time?" There are lots of other residents in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties who have the same question. Well, the American Red Cross of NW Florida has a way for people to come together with other residents of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties and learn this valuable lifesaving skill. It's called CPR Saturday. CPR Saturday is a free chance for residents to receive training in CPR from a skilled professional Red Cross instructor. At the end of the course, students will be qualified to become certified in Adult CPR. CPR Saturday will be held in Escambia County. On June 16th, devote a few hours of time preparing to be a lifesaver. Better yet, increase the number of lifesavers in the community by bringing out family and friends. CPR is especially important for teens with babysitting jobs. Interested parties must preregister for this course. There are only 200 slots available for this session. For more information on CPR Saturday and the variety of health and safety courses offered through the Red Cross, contact the Customer Service division at 1-800-773- 7620.
