GBES helps students get new library cards During the recent National Library Week, Gulf Breeze Elementary School's library media specialist, Dodi Stringfellow, held a library card registration drive in order for students to borrow materials from the local public library. Although many students have visited the Gulf Breeze branch of the Santa Rosa County Library System, not all of them realized they need a new card, since the recent split from the West Florida Regional Library System. Several perks come with the new Santa Rosa County library card. Students can check out up to 30 items, twice the amount allowed using the West Florida Regional Library System and best of all, there are NO late fees for overdue books, provided the books are actually returned to library! Mrs. Stringfellow passed out registration forms, delivered them to the Gulf Breeze branch and will distribute the cards to students as soon as they are ready. Over 200 students applied for library cards during the drive. For motivation, Mrs. Stringfellow also offered ice cream parties for classes with 100 percent participation in the library card drive. Pictured are some of Mrs. Cayson's kindergarten students enjoying their ice cream! Stringfellow says "I want to help our students use the public library this summer to keep them interested in books and also foster a life-long love of reading!" |
