Letters to the Editor It was with interest that I read recent letters to the editor in the last two weeks' edition of the Gulf Breeze News. The first one dealt with the Sports Association's endorsement of the newest City Council member. The letter this past week concerned the "powerful people who are in control of Gulf Breeze". In response to Mr. Fisher's comments regarding the Sports Association backing one candidate over another. I say "amen." I was delighted the Sports Association endorsed the candidate who backed the Sports Association policies and perhaps subsequently helped get him elected. One reason Mr. Henderson was defeated was his apparent reluctance to support the expansion of the over crowded ball fields at Shoreline Park. Fearing what repercussions might develop over a foe of the ball park, the members of the Board of the Sports Association reacted appropriately. The complex at Shoreline Park North is truly a tremendous asset to our area and one in which all of us can be proud. Not just the facility which is top drawer, but the way it is run. Just visit other parks and you will realize how blessed we "Breezers" are. If you have lived in Gulf Breeze as long as I have you can remember all of the various stages of development to get to where it is now. As for who runs the City of Gulf Breeze, I really don't know, but these responsible folks do a great job. If you live in the city most of us really appreciate all of the services that we enjoy due to the directions that our elected officials have taken us. I guess that Mr. Henderson was alluding to a "good ole boy network" and if that is the case, those "good ole boys and girl" seem to be looking out for us. Term limits - we don't need them - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." However, if you need to be heard attend the council meetings. The City Council and administrators are very cordial and willing to answer any question and help when they can. Maureen S. Hill Gulf Breeze Set the example Memorial Day has passed again - shopping deals are overplacing flags in the cemetery and remembering our heroes- is that over too? Please don't let another holiday slip by without taking time to volunteer or make a difference in some way with those who serve. They are the reasons we are here to enjoy all the freedoms and fun of summer and the reasons we do not have to live on 24-7 alert of a bomb dropping or terrorists here on our homeland soil. They are the reason we do not live in fear. As you sip your lemonade, enjoy a hug from your wet child fresh out of the pool, tuck them in exhausted from summer fun at night ... remember our heroes in your prayers and in your actions this summer. Freedom is never free and freedom endures. Your children are watching. You set the example. When July 4th rolls around, let there be a story to tell of something special you did to thank our heroes and inspire your friends and family to do the same. It is our duty as Americans - or should it not be just like in World War II? We can learn from the greatest generation- from what they did at war and on the homefront. God bless America.
