Save on sales tax till Tuesday

Save money on tarps, candles and generators while you can, the sales tax holiday ends June 12.

The Sales Tax holiday to help Florida consumers prepare for hurricane season lasts until Tuesday, June. 12.

Items that may be purchased tax-free include: certain batteries selling for $30 or less;

Any flashlight or portable self-powered light source selling for $20 or less;

Any gas or diesel fuel tank selling for $25 or less;

Any ground anchor system or tie-down kit selling for $50 or less;

Any cell phone battery selling for $60 or less and any cell phone charger selling for $40 or less;

Any non-electric food storage cooler selling for $30 or less;

Any storm shutter device selling for $200 or less;

Any carbon monoxide detector selling for $75 or less;

Any re-usable ice selling for $10 or less;

Any portable generator used in the event of a power outage selling for $1,000 or less;

Any portable self-powered radio, two-way radio, or weather band radio selling for $75 or less;

Any tarpaulin or other flexible waterproof sheeting selling for $50 or less;

Encouraging Floridians to make their purchases now instead of when faced by the threat of an approaching storm, the hurricane sales tax holiday will save Florida's families almost $20 million on their purchases this year. Many retailers also run additional savings on these items during the hurricane sales tax holiday.
