Library summer reading at GB library
Library summer reading programs are geared for reading for the fun of it! One role for librarians is to create new generations of readers - people who are curious and love to read. Taking advantage of children's natural curiosity, librarians use summer reading programs to introduce new subjects and reading areas - things kids might not study in school but are interested in. This year, your Santa Rosa County Libraries have programs to encourage readers of all ages - adults, teens, and children - to participate and read together. In addition to reading logs for children, teens and adults will have opportunities to participate in reading discussion groups - through the One Community, One Book program. This summer, the book is "The Beekeeper's Apprentice." If you want to participate, go to the library website www.santarosa. fl.gov/libraries or to your local library to register. Tips to Encourage Children's Reading Share books and reading when a child is born - and continue throughout teen years Make special time for reading together and talking about reading Have a special place for reading in your home While "waiting" - at the doctor's office, in lines, on trips - share reading - books, signs, anything Set a good example - and let your child see you read Give books are gifts Take your child to the local library and get to know the children's librarian Get your child their own library card - a free card that opens up worlds of opportunities Along with reading print, listen to audio books in the car, at picnics, on camping trips The Santa Rosa County Library System is a department of the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners. Libraries are located in Gulf Breeze, Jay, Milton, and Navarre, and Pace. |
