GBSA team takes third at rec tourney

Ueberschaer, sponsor of a U-10 rec team coached by Keith Curington, took third out of 23 teams at a Dizzy Dean rec tournament last week at Shoreline Park. Team Ueberschaer, a GBSA Minor League team coached by Keith Curington, won six consecutive games in the losers bracket to finish third out of 23 teams in the inaugural Dizzy Dean End of Season Rec Tournament last week at Shoreline Park.

Ueberschaer lost to Cantonment Alabama 13-4 before beating the Myrtle Grove Cubs 19-0, Myrtle Grove Pepsi 14-0, GBSA's Crabs 7-5, Bellview Red Sox 4-2, the Myrtle Grove Yankees 7-6 in seven innings and GBSA's Sports Connection 5-3 before losing to Bill Bond's Jerry's Drive In 11-3.

Ueberschaer had two hits against Jerry's - singles by Brandon Bell and Troy Stringfellow. Nick Henry, Zack Dobar and Stringfellow all scored twice.

Ueberschaer scored all five of its runs in the first inning against the Sports Connection. Stringfellow and Alex Thompson both had two hits in the win, while Alex Colston hit a two-run homer in the loss. Mitchell Robbins tripled and scored for the Sports Connection.

The two hits were the only ones given up by winning pitcher Garner Curington.

Ueberschaer for two doubles and two runs from Henry to beat the Yankees. Bell scored what would be the game-winning run when Curington was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Sports Connection, which won five straight losers bracket games before being eliminated, beat the Cantonment Gamecocks 8-5, scoring five runs in the top of the sixth.

Mitchell Robbins and Bradley Proctor both had three hits in the win, with Robbins' two-run double scoring the winning runs.

A sixth inning rally fell two runs short for the Tiger Point Tigers, who finished fourth out of 25 teams in the Rookie Division.

The Tigers lost to the Bill Bond 10-8 to finish the tournament. Colton Prentiss had three hits in the loss, including a two-run double in the sixth inning that missed being a game-tying grand slam by a couple of feet.

Bobby Murphy, Maverick Zanca and Josh Turnipseed had three hits each, while Tyler Welch had two hits. Brian Richards scored three times.

Jonah Roby had two hits in a 10-2 win over the Brent Marlins. The Tigers led 7-0 after three innings.

G Daniel Green was GBSA's highest finisher in the Rookie Division, taking fifth place after a 18-15 loss to Bill Bond's ESP.

Daniel Green had four hits in the loss, while Brian Joyner, Eric Finger, Tristan Covell, Luke Chastain, Gavin Mayes, Christopher Bouglar, Noah Woods and Alec Grimes all had two hits each.

G. Daniel Green took its first lead of the game with a three-run fifth, but ESP put up seven runs in the sixth to take the lead for good.
