Correction:
Burn ban in effect

Incorrect information concerning the county burn ban appeared in last week's issue of Gulf Breeze News. There is no burning allowed at this time. The ban prohibits open burning, to include but not limited to campfires, wildfires, bonfires, trash burning and other similar forms of incineration. The ban will remain in effect until the fire-borne threat has ended.

In Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties, wildfire conditions are approaching the borderline between high fire danger and extreme fire danger, due to a prolonged period without significant rain in the district, extensive areas of large-size fuel resulting from the hurricanes, and the onset of lightning season. The public is reminded that the Commissioner of Agriculture has disallowed burning of yard trash state-wide, and that bans against all outdoor burning (including campfires) has been imposed by the Commissioners of Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and 34 other counties in Florida. Barbecue grills and camp stoves are the only exceptions. Local law enforcement authorities should be contacted for response to illegal burning, and wildfires should be reported by calling 911 or the Division of Forestry at (850) 957-6145-O.
