Celebration of life benefits Covenant Hospice

Not only live music and over 300 party-goers filled MySpace last week during a benefit for Covenant Hospice, but joy was evident in the room as well. Party hosts Gary Michaels, Mark Lee and Cherry Fitch greeted guests as they arrived, and encouraged them to have fun and enjoy the music, the dancing and the food.

"We love entertaining, and the last time we threw a party we decided that what we really wanted to do from that point on was to plan parties with a purpose - to make sure that the next parties we planned would benefit a worthy cause," explains Gary Michaels. "We have experienced the death of loved ones in the last few years when Covenant Hospice was there to help them and helped us to keep going."

The benefit raised over $20,000 for Covenant Hospice, a not-for-profit organization currently in the midst of raising funds for its ongoing services and for its expansion at the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Inpatient Residence, located at 10075 Hillview Rd. in Pensacola.

Since the Residence was built in 1992, Covenant Hospice has cared for more than 1,200 patients and their families at the facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The residence allows Covenant Hospice to provide compassionate care in a homelike atmosphere for those facing a life-limiting illness and their families.

"We are engaged in our 'Expanding the Care and Compassion' campaign," said Dale O. Knee, Covenant Hospice President and CEO, "and look forward to working with our community partners to help put life into days, when days can no longer be added to life."

Mark Lee and Gary Michaels are members of the Campaign Leadership Council, and hosted the party as a means to celebrate life with their friends, while making a difference.

The focus of Covenant Hospice is to enable our patients to live as fully and comfortable as possible and it was fitting that that they would coordinate a fun, lively celebration of life to benefit Covenant Hospice. Since dying is a part of the normal process of life, the focus of Covenant Hospice is to enable patients to live as fully and comfortably as possible.
