This weekend, pray for military personnel and for their families left behind

Memorial Day is a day to remember the sacrifices of those who have been a part of all wars in which our Nation has been involved. And remember we should.

One of the most touching scenes on TV is when military persons are saying goodbyes to their spouses, children, parents, and other members of the family and friends. The pain of separation is evident even as they try to keep a strong posture.

Some, however, let their emotions go and tears stream down their faces. There's always the question if they will ever return. The price of war is not only paid by military personnel, but by their loved ones as well.

So, on this Memorial Day, let us remember not only those who go off to war, but those who are left behind. The level of danger is not the same, but the pain of separation, the loneliness, the fear is felt by those loved ones, and especially the loved ones of the 3,422 Americans who have lost their lives in the Iraqi War.

We give thanks for the virtues of bravery and self-sacrifice that have been evident in all wars. We can certainly pray for the loved ones they've left behind, as well as the wounded who will constantly be reminded of their commitment to their country.

As we enjoy our weekend, regardless of our feelings about war, let us take a moment to remember, to say a prayer.
