The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin softball team held its annual awards banquet Friday at the GBHS softball field.

The banquet took place just 48 hours after Escambia lost in the state semifinals. Gulf Breeze lost to the Lady Gators twice during the regular season by a total of four runs.

After players and parents enjoyed a potluck dinner, freshman coaches Patrick Kean and Melissa Payne introduced their team. Junior varsity coach Brett Napier followed by introducing his team.

One of his players, Tess Waggoner, was awarded the Angel In the Outfield award, in honor of former Lady Dolphin Jennifer Zepp, who passed away about 10 years ago.

Varsity coach Rob Simon then introduced his squad, who went 10-12 in his first year as coach.

Freshman Rachel Viglione, sophomores Sarah Munsch and Lyndsey Wright, junior Catherine Horn and senior Cori Linville were the program's Academic award winners.

Deannette Zuniga was the team's Golden Glove award winner, while Wright was the Silver Slugger award winner with a .391 batting average. Linville was named the team's Most Valuable Player.
