WBMS' Barbee heads to National History Fair in Maryland June 10-14

Melissa Goray congratulates Michael Barbee on his winning documentary.
Woodlawn Beach Middle School is very proud of all the students that represented Santa Rosa County at the state History Fair in Tallahassee this past weekend. Each and every one of these students have been working very hard for months on the research and development of their projects.

National History Day, also referred to as History Fair is an in-depth project that teaches students research skills, time management, and the significance of events in history while supporting state and national standards. Students are given a broad theme that they must narrow down to a specific topic. This year's theme is Triumph and Tragedy.

Mary Matechik presented her historical paper entitled, "Triumph and Tragedy on the Oregon Trail," Aja Grooms, Katy Dennis, Colleen Marek, Ashley O'Connor, and Kelly Hayes presented their group performance entitled "The London Blitzkrieg" and Michael Barbee presented his individual documentary entitled "Tragedy in the Skies: The Bombing of Panama 103."

A special congratulations goes to Michael Barbee who qualified to represent Florida at the national competition June 10-14 for National History Day at the University of Maryland.

Each year Florida sends the top two projects from the state in each category to the national competition.
