Ballet Pensacola Pirate Party

More than 100 people attended the Ballet Pensacola Pirate party on Saturday May 5th at Hemingway's Island Grill on the sound. The proceeds from this party went towards The Reluctant Pirate, a show held on Saturday, May 12 at the Saenger theatre. Some of the girls and the Jean Laffite crewmen who donned their pirate costumes for the party were also in The Reluctant Pirate cast. Eric Fritz., a Laffite crewman served as the master of ceremonies for the Pirate Party.

The Reluctant Pirate is a unique original work choreographed by Ballet Pensacola's artistic director, Bobbi Ball. The performance on Saturday was the last one at the Saenger until after its renovation is complete in 2008. Next season, Ballet Pensacola is challenged with lack of performance venues, as are many local performers.

"Talk of the Town"

The Driftwood Garden Club met Thursday April 26 at New World Landing with Margaret James as hostess. Since the program was on taking pride in your community Margaret decorated the tables with green plants and a dash of roses set in baskets that she brought from her own home. The effect set the tone for a productive meeting. The nominating committee presented the following slate for 2007-2008 officers: President, Millie Dehn; Vice-President, Kathy Cannon; Recording Secretary, Betty Allen; Corresponding Secretary; Sara Whitesell; and Treasurer, Emogene Presley.

Barbra Williams wears a "Kentucky Derby" hat for the Breezer Bunco party.
Following the business meeting Dot Morgan introduced the program, "Taking Pride in Your Community," with featured speaker John Tonkin, Executive Director of Santa Rosa County Community Commission. John spoke ardently about raising awareness in environmental issues and programs that are designed to help. The old standby programs, such as Rivers Clean-Up, the Great American Clean-Up and Coastal Clean- Up, continue to do well, and help raise awareness. He says that the commission will be introducing new programs, such as Clean Builders, that the board and community feel are needed for the future of our county.

Lisa Chilton won the "Race for the Roses" at the Breezer Bunco party hosted by Bethany Barfield in May.
