AFDONA CURIE YSRAEL Afdona Curie Ysrael passed away on May 3, 2007, in Gulf Breeze, Florida. She was born on October 10, 1911, Antioch, Syria, now Turkey, to Mr. and Mrs. Michel and Farida Curie. She was preceded in death by her husband Miguel J. Ysrael and her son Albert C.Ysrael. She was married to Miguel J. Ysrael in 1929 in Antioch and immediately thereafter migrated to Manila, Philippines, where she raised a family of seven children. "Lola, as she was known, was a gourmet international cook who could make phyllo dough from scratch. She was a wonderful seamstress who made her own patterns. She did such beautiful embroidery that you could not tell the front from the back. She could even paint, a talent she passed on to her daughter Adela and her grandchildren. She was also fluent in six languages. Her children remember with gratitude how their parents kept them all alive during the terrible Japanese occupation in World War II." She is survived by four sons and two daughters and their spouses: son Alfred C. Ysrael and wife Diana Z. Ysrael; son William C. Ysrael and wife Frances A. Ysrael, sons Simon C. Ysrael and Miguel "Mike" C. Ysrael; daughters Adela C. Gruber and husband Harry Gruber and Yvonne C. Ysrael; her grandchildren Michael, Elizabeth, Mariana, Catherine and Donna Ysrael, Cristiana and Victoria Ysrael, Michael, Melissa and Marianne Gruber. She is additionally survived by her great-grandchildren Matthew, David, Claire and Adam Nussbaum, Annemarie, Jacqueline and William Arnold, Michelle, Sofia and Thomas Ysrael, James Gomez, Dylan and Kylie Baker. Funeral Mass services will be held at the Agana Cathedral in Agana, Guam, and burial will be at Pigo Cemetery, Agana, Guam at the family plot with her husband and son. Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
