Villas resident competes for Ms. Northwest Florida
Twenty contestants from various nursing homes and assisted living facilities competed for the title of Ms. Northwest Florida. The Mistress of Ceremonies was Sue Straughn, news anchor of WEAR-TV Channel 3. The ladies were all escorted by Washington High School ROTC cadets. The purpose of the event was to bring awareness to the quality of life in today's nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Nell is a recent resident of The Villas in Gulf Breeze. She was born on June 16, 1918, and is 88 years old. She grew up in a loving home in Pensacola, and is a graduate of Pensacola High School. Love bloomed when Nell met a Navy aviation cadet named Richard, and they were soon married. Richard went on to receive the Navy Cross and the rank of Captain. Nell enjoyed her life as a Navy officer's wife and the opportunities she had to live in various places around the country. She also enjoyed her life as a mother and chose to be a stay-at-home mom, raising her son and daughter. In the past, Nell served as president of the bridge club and as president of the dance club at a number of Navy bases across the country. Nell and Richard were married for 51 years. Following Richard's death, Nell married William Bramlett. Mr. Bramlett has also passed away. |
