Cancun's wins Midseason Tournament

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Tournament champs Cancun's, a GBSA-based U-16 softball team, won the Northwest Florida Girls Softball Alliance's Midseason Tournament last week in Navarre. Alison Milam threw a two-hitter and struck out 14 as Cancun's, a GBSA U-16 softball team, won the Northwest Florida Girls Softball Alliance's Midseason Tournament Thursday, defeating the Pace Red Sox 3-2 in the championship game at the Navarre Sports Complex.

After leaving the bases loaded in the top of the second, Cancun's put up two runs in the third. Milam led off with a walk and eventually scored on an error, while Ashley Scott singled and scored on a single by Caroline Waghalter.

Waghalter would make it 3-0 when she scored on a Pace error.

The Red Sox, who were playing their second straight game after eliminating the Tiger Point Titans, put up single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. They left the potential tying run on third base when the game ended.

Renee Hunt and Katherine Landry also had base hits in the win.

Cancun's 11, Tiger Point Titans 2: Caroline Ennis went 3-for-4 with a triple and five RBIs as Cancun's advanced to the title game with a win over the Titans.

Waghalter, Katie Aldridge and Lindsey Hawthorne all had two hits in the win, as Milam and Hawthorne combined on a twohitter, striking out nine.

Cancun's 2, Pace Cardinals 0: Milam came within two outs of a no-hitter, striking out 15 as Cancun's blanked the Cardinals.

Milam also scored both of Cancun's runs, one of them after a triple. Amanda Curington and Waghalter had the team's only other base hits.

Cancun's 10, Navarre Kazbor's Grille 0: Milam and Ennis both homered to lead Cancun's to w in over Navarre's Kazbor's Grille.

Milam also tripled and scored twice, while Aldridge had a hit and scored twice. Hawthorne and Milam combined on a three-hitter with seven strikeouts.

Cancun's 9, NEP USA 3: Milam hit two inside-the-park home runs and struck out 15 as Cancun's won their tournament opener against NEP.

Waghalter, Curington and Lauren Alverson all had two hits in the win.

Pace Red Sox 6, Titans 2: A four-run third inning was the difference as the Red Sox advanced to the title game after a win over the Titans April 26.

Meredeth Chavers' RBI single scored Krissy Barger, while Katie McLelland's single scored Chavers. Katey Barger had the Titans' only other hit.

Chavers had two hits, including a double, and scored once, while Katey Barger added an RBI triple in the Titans' loss to Cancuns.

Titans 5, Pace Red Sox 2: The Titans rallied from a 2-1 deficit with runs in the second and third innings and two more in the fifth April 23.

Kellie Krueger hit two triples and scored three times, while Lauren Osburn added an RBI single. Haley Baldwin also had a hit in the win.

Titans 11, Navarre 2: Krissy Barger, Chavers, Rebekah Pyle and Katie Barger all scored twice as the Titans scored six in the first and five in the second against Navarre on April 21.

Titans 12, Perdido Key Tigers 5: The Titans opened the tournament by scoring six runs in each of the first two innings against the Tigers April 20.

Krissy Barger went 2-for-2 and scored twice, while Chavers, McLelland and Pyle all scored twice.
