Bass 10th in shot put at state

Gulf Breeze High sophomore Tobie Bass took 10th place in the shot put at Saturday's 2A state meet in Winter Park.

Bass, who finished second at the regional meet with a throw of 35 feet 4.25 inches, threw a 33-8.5 at state.

Dana Teschel tied her careerbest of five feet in the high jump, finishing in a tie for 14th.

The quartet of Kurt Mason, Tommy Gibble, Sean Seales and Will Thomas, who set a school record the previous week at regionals, ran an 8:26.16 at state for a 14th place finish. The four ran an 8:20 at regionals.

In other news at the state track meet, Woodham's final athletic competition netted a third place team finish for the girls team and a fourth place finish for the boys.

Junior Jared Thomas won the discus with a throw of 163 feet, 9.25 inches, while the senior quartet of Patrick Richardson, Jonathon Wiggins, Joshua Jones and Evan Johnson won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:19.42.

Johnson was also second in the 400 meter dash (48.17), while the quartet of Dacia Mays, Jacquelyn Jones, Lisa Ellliott and Simone Buford were second in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:50.35.
