Opal Bailey Murphy
1911 - 2007

Opal Bailey Murphy, 95, passed away on April 15, 2007, in a local nursing home. Anative of Kentucky, Mrs. Murphy has resided in Gulf Breeze for more than thirty years and more recently at Wesley Haven Villa in Pensacola.

She was a member of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Villa Venyce Woman's Club, and the Pensacola Beach Woman's Club.

Predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Raymond Volney Murphy, she is survived by three daughters: Dr. Kathryn M. Evans of Pensacola, Dr. Shirley M. Branan of Pensacola, and Mrs. Carolyn M. Melchor of Suffolk, Va. Also surviving are six grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren, three great-greatgrandchildren, and her sister, Larue B. Sullivan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Memorial services will be held at the chapel of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, 75 Fairpoint Drive, on Monday, April 23, at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Ruth Knights officiating. Visitation will be at Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home on Sunday, April 22, from 4 - 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Mrs. Murphy's memory may make contributions to the Sacred Heart Nursing Staff through the Sacred Heart Foundation or to their favorite charity.

The family is especially grateful to the staff of 5 West at Sacred Heart Hospital, the Haven, and Dr. Rodney Soto.
