Dolphins clinch number two seed

Greg Tober struck out a career-high 13 on Thursday as Tober and his Dolphin baseball senior teammates celebrated Senior Night with a 12-2 win over PHS.

The win also clinched the second seed in next week's district tournament for the Dolphins, who also posted their fourth consecutive double-digit run game.

Tober, one of nine seniors on the team (along with Tom Cotton, Tyler Gross, Boomer Harrington, Derek Jeter, Brad McGuire, Tyler Schumacher, Michael Thomas and Ashton Vance) walked the first two betters of the game. But after giving up an RBI single, Tober would strike out three straight to get out of the jam. He would later strike out eight in a nine-batter span.

Gulf Breeze wasted little time breaking out their bats, scoring six in the bottom of the first. McGuire, who went 2-for-4 and scored once, led off with a single. Brandon Scott, who also went 2-for-4, beat out an infield single. McGuire would score on a subsequent scoring error before Kameron Brunty hit a two-run homer.

Brunty went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scored twice.

Harrington, who scored twice, singled and scored on another PHS error. Cotton, who also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, beat out an infield single before Schumacher hit a two-run triple.

Brunty singled in the bottom of the second and scored on an error before Harrington walked and scored when Gross reached on a fielder's choice.

The Dolphins would add single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Brunty doubled in the third inning to score Scott before Schumacher scored in the fourth inning on a balk.

Gross reached on another PHS error in the fifth inning and scored on a fly out by Vance before McGuire led off the sixth inning with a double and scored when Harrington reached on an error.

Tober threw a completegame two-hitter, but walked six.

Dolphins 16, Escambia 1

Gulf Breeze was kept off the scoreboard for three innings before scoring 16 unanswered over the final four to roll to a win over the Gators, the site of their season end in 2006.

A leadoff single and a wild pitch led to the Gators' 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After the Dolphins left two runners on in the first and another runner in the second, they tied the game in the top of the fourth.

Harrington, who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, was hit by a pitch. He scored on a single by Cotton.

Gulf Breeze tacked on two more in the fifth inning. Scott walked with two outs before Brunty doubled. Both runners scored on a double by Harrington.

The Dolphins then blew the game wide open with a five-run sixth and an eight-run seventh.

McGuire singled to bring home Shane Dorlag, who reached on a throwing error. Scott then singled to bring home Kolton Hanke, who also singled.

After Brunty was walked to load the bases, both Harrington and T.J. Jordan hit infield singles that both scored runs.

Brunty, who went 3-for-4 and scored three times, hit a two-run single in the seventh, as did Vance. Gross rounded out the scoring with a two-run triple.

McGuire and Dorlag both had two hits in the win, while Scott scored three times and Hanke two runs.

Thomas struck out a careerhigh 11 in six innings, striking out the side in the fourth and fifth innings. He allowed only five hits, with four walks and a hit batter in 111 pitches.

Dolphin JV 11, PHS 4

Alex Ball threw three innings of one-hit ball, while Corey Downs went 3-for-4 as the Dolphins ended their season at 14-4 with a win over the Tigers.

Bo Dobson went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Cody Warford, Tyler Boylan and Daniel Shull all scored twice.

Dolphin JV 6, Escambia 4

Gulf Breeze put up five runs in the second inning and held on for a win over the Gators.

Downs went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Shull added a two-run single. Dobson allowed only two hits in four innings to get the win.

Stephen Robbins struck out 10 and allowed only four hits as the Dolphin freshman finished with an 11-6-1 record.

Thomas Dorsey doubled twice in the win. Tyler McGee, Isaac Davis and Nick Humphrey all had two hits in the win, while Robyn Hoffpauir scored twice.
